About Rock the House
When you've got a great band and you're looking for a place to share your music with your friends, what do you do? This is the problem that faced S2K's founder and President, Dan Pulos back in 2003. Dan's band, Ukiah, was already an established name on the East coast, where every August, the band would meet for an annual reunion in Dayton, Ohio. The band featured Rock N Roll Hall of Famer, Ira Stanley, and Bob Abrams (The Buckinghams) on guitars, Butch Klopfer on bass, and Dan Pulos on the Hammond B-3 organ. The team packed the clubs wherever they played in the downtown Dayton music scene.
Dan called his friend and fellow McDonald's system partner, Jim Howard of James Howard Accountancy to create an event that would showcase the talents of both Dan's band and Jim's band in a way that would benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California. The team knew they had a winning combination of talented musicians and what better way to use all that talent than to benefit such a worthy cause.
The plans were made and the first year's Rock the House was held at B.B. King's Blues Club in Hollywood, California. The event was a huge success, so it was decided to return the following year with the 2nd Annual Rock the House event.
In 2005, McDonald's West Division President, Steve Plotkin, joined the team and played his guitar backing Jim's band, TDS to a packed house at B.B. King's. Hal Eisner of UPN/KCOP joined the team as emcee and over $10,000 was raised towards RMHCSC. A live television broadcast on the evening news gave the events sponsors great exposure and helped the event build even more momentum. An acoustic group led by Alicia Eastvold opened the event and set the tone for an enjoyable evening filled with music, great food, and friendship. This event was truly off-the-charts.
2006 brought the debut of The Steve Plotkin Band. Steve's band along with back up singer Toni Dodd had the house rockin' and rollin' with a great selection of classic rock tunes. The TDS Band ramped it up with a progressive sound and Ukiah gave the crowd a dose of Southern Style Rock & Blues to complement the hearty Southern-style feast provided by B.B. King's.
2007 will prove to be the biggest Rock the House event to date. With a brand new venue at the House of Blues Anaheim to accommodate the growing audience, the event committee has estimated a fundraising goal of $15,000. This event is unique to the RMHCSC fundraiser line-up. It is a true let your hair down and rock the night away in a friendly setting. Since the venue is closed to the general public during the event, the house is packed with members of the McDonald's system, from Corporate and Owner/Operators to vendors and suppliers. At the beginning of 2007, the phones began ringing with inquiries on when & where our 2007 show would take place. We hope that you will join us on August 30th, 2007 at 6:00pm at the House of Blues Anaheim in the Downtown Disney® District.
